I experimented a bit with the handle of this basket. I used such a lovely piece of Ash that I wanted to leave a bit of it exposed. Using steamed willow to wrap the handle, but not filling all of the gaps, made a great contrast. Well, I liked it, my friend said that it looked unfinished. I told him to 'go away'. He's a pesk anyway, so his opinion never counts.
This basket was woven for The Shepton Witch. I said a little prayer over it, in the hope it might imbue the basket with a little love and positivity for her healing and for very successful berry picking. :)

I love it. In fact, it makes me wish for a harvesting basket with a smooth handle. It is a lovely piece of ash - it gives the basket a strange contrasting message of strength and delicacy.
ReplyDeleteI Love the basket. I'm sure Shepton Witch will spend many a happy hour foraging with it.:)
ReplyDelete"Unfinished"? Actually, it feels very nice in the hand and there's a lovely rhythm to the way the ash peeks out in a spiral. Sarah's absolutely right about the contrast of strength and delicacy and I wouldn't swap it for anything, so, well woven Hen! Thank you, it's just a delight and though not getting used for berries just yet, is still earning it's keep as a transport from all those little bits and bobs that are hard to carry upstairs when you don't have either hand to hold things with!
ReplyDeleteI love the plait down the side too - and though I suspect you may have had grander ideas, what better than to be able to hook a cloth to mop berry-sticky paws after a good rustle in the hedgerows?!
That looks like a great basket for berry picking or mushroom hunting Hen. Very sturdy with great accents.
ReplyDeleteWell i think it looks just right. Its perfect to let a little bit of that ask show through. Its honoring the structure of the basket. And just think of the lovely colors it will take on from the berries that fill it up over the years.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI got one of your Berry Baskets for Yule as a very kind gift from the Shepton Witch - I love it and can't wait until I can use it to gather things. In the meantime it looks very elegant as an "ornament" on top of my bookcase.
:) I am sooOOOoo pleased you like it!

I had an art teacher who said the same thing to me over a ceramic piece I did. What did she know? Nothing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Shepton Witch for the link nudge.
